AV Intelligence: Green AV Systems Green AV is a two-pronged initiative. Sure, energy efficiency is key. Just don't forget the environmental impact of the AV systems themselves. But greening AV systems requires a life-cycle architecture that incorporates recycled materials in manufacturing, an extended serviceable life, and the ability to easily and cost-effectively disassemble and recycle components. The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences is the epicenter for the Grammy staff. When AV design for the new facility began in the summer of 2008, the plan included the usual mix of conference rooms and offices. It also included the unusual: a combination boardroom and performance space used for meetings, audio conferencing, videoconferencing–and live performances by guest artists. The design would have to balance the needs of some very different AV users.
It's a common refrain: AV integrators are at a disadvantage in new construction projects because they're among the last contractors invited to the party. But what if they parlayed a relatively recent phenomenon in AV wiring into an advantage that could get them in the door sooner, namely running AV signals over category cabling?
